The "Audience Insights Extractor" Prompt

How to get audience insights on autopilot

Hey Warrior,

This week I did something that I regretted not doing sooner as soon as I did it:

I set up a way to collect data about my audience on autopilot.

Then I used AI to analyze that data to get insights in seconds instead of hours.

These insights are super valuable because they help me understand my audience's challenges, preferences, and goals. With this knowledge, I can create content that resonates on a deeper level.

Today I’ll show you how you can do the same. You'll learn:

  • How to set up a system to collect audience insights on autopilot

  • What the "Audience Insights Extractor" Prompt is

  • How I used this prompt to analyze the audience data I collected to make decisions about my business

Let's jump in!

🧠 The system that collects audience insights on autopilot

As a creator, there aren't many things more important than truly understanding your audience. Because understanding your audience is the foundation for creating content and products that resonate with them.

But the truth is most creators don’t do this very well (including me).

Here’s how I used to do it:

  • Do user interviews occasionally (very slow process)

  • Send out a few surveys or polls sometimes (not consistent)

  • Read comments or messages and try to infer insights from those (not reliable)

That always left me with a feeling of uncertainty. I wasn't sure if I really understood my audience's needs and desires.

And if you're reading this, you’re probably making the same mistake.

But this week, this changed for me (thanks to Daniel Bustamante who gave me this awesome advice - definitely give him a follow, he always gives fantastic marketing tips!).

Here's what I did:

On my newsletter Thank You Page, that's the page you land on after subscribing to my newsletter, I embedded a short Tally survey.

(Btw, if you don’t have a newsletter, think about other ways you can inject this into your funnel. I’m sure you’ll think of many options).

The survey just asks these 3 simple questions:

  1. What's your role and industry?

  2. What do you need help with the most?

  3. What are your #1 goals?

The amazing thing about this is that I am now collecting insights on autopilot. Every day new people sign up to my newsletter and some of them (around 50%) will answer this survey.

After a week I have now collected 100s of responses.

And now we get to the juicy part…

Because with AI it's easier than ever to analyze these responses. Let's get into the prompt I use for that.

🤖 The “Audience Insights Extractor” Prompt

This prompt is like your personal data analyst. It will take the CSV file of your audience survey as input and extract a bunch of useful insights to help you understand your audience better and take better action.

Specifically, the prompt will output:

  • A segmentation of your audience

  • Common patterns in the challenges and problems

  • Identify and group the most common goals

  • Finally, generate targeted content ideas based on the results

Here’s the full prompt:

Analyze the provided file containing survey data about an audience. Perform the following analysis and present your findings in a clear, structured format:

1. Segmentation: Identify top 5-7 audience segments based on the data. Present in a table with Segment, Count, and Percentage.

2. Challenges: List top 5-7 challenges. Include count, percentage, and brief explanation with supporting data.

3. Goals: Identify top 5-7 main goals. Include count, percentage, and brief explanation with supporting data.

4. Content Ideas: Generate 5-7 content ideas addressing the identified challenges and goals. For each, provide:
- Title
- Brief description (1-2 sentences)
- Challenge or goal addressed
- Target audience segment(s)

Additional Guidelines:

- Support all insights with data or quotes from the survey.
- State any assumptions made during analysis.
- Round percentages to one decimal place.
- If the CSV is too large, analyze a representative sample and mention this.
- Don't use XML tags in your output, use markdown with headers.
- Provide clear, actionable insights for understanding the audience and guiding content creation.

How to use this prompt:

  1. Copy and paste the prompt into your AI chatbot of choice (e.g. Claude or ChatGPT). Claude 3.5 Sonnet gave me the best results in this case.

  2. Upload the CSV file that you exported from your Tally survey

  3. Run the prompt

Here's the output that Claude gave me when I inputted my survey data:

The results are incredible. It provides a clear breakdown, helping me identify patterns and allowing me to understand my audience better. Before AI, it would take me hours to get an analysis like this.

I do have to mention one caveat however: The output is good to give you a general sense of the patterns present in the data. It is however not 100% accurate. For example, the respondent count and the percentages are slightly off and they also fluctuate when you "Retry" the prompt. So just take that into account when drawing your insights.

💡 Wrapping Up
